Protecting your stockpile during a power outage

January 26, 2009

With ice and sleet in the forecast today, I can’t help but remember the ice storm of 2007. We were without power for 17 days, and I never thought about protecting my stockpile and other foods. I came home to quite the mess. There are many resources detailing how to protect your food items, and when to throw them away. However, I cannot find much information on stockpile items, such as shampoo, medicines, shaving cream, hairspray, etc. I do know from experience that conditioner can actually improve after freezing. My cheap stuff that froze is much thicker than the salon stuff that I was paying $20 for.

I have found a great article on how to preserve your food during a power outage and when to throw items away. You can view this article here.
